FEATURED ARTIST - Janet Nelson

Janet Nelson grew up in Southern Wisconsin and was inspired by her grandmother to create. Nelson took art classes through school and attended oil painting workshops with Al Staszesesky while living on the east coast. During those sessions she refined working with a limited palette, choosing to mix her own colors which allowed her to play with the interaction of color next to color with a wider range of variety.

Nelson’s style has evolved through observation and changes in her environment. Recently she has been working on large floral paintings. Her technique involves covering the canvas with different colors and then working in the negative space to defining florals shapes and images.

“I have learned not to take myself too seriously. I paint what I feel and know that each piece that is created ends up qualifying the one before.”
